“Support bacteria – they are the only culture some people have.” ∼ Steven Wright
As an international Biology student in Darmstadt, you can join the BioBuddies to get assigned to a german Buddy. Your Buddy can help you with (almost) everything concerning your stay in Darmstadt and the problems you might run into as a Biology student at TU. They might have faced the same issues as you will and they are here to help you, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice. But most importantly, you will already have a friend here. You two can spend some free time with each other and also other friends any of you might have. Moreover there will also be Events or even just smaller GetTogethers with all Internationals and Buddies to share experiences, advice and most importantly have a lot of fun.
If you decide to study Biology at TU Darmstadt, we will contact you via e-mail asking if you want to participate in our program. If you do, we will then need some information from you to assign you to your perfect buddy. If you missed our message or didn’t get it, or if you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us.
Students from darmstadt
As a Biology student from Darmstadt, joining the BioBuddies will give you the opportunity to get in contact with students from all over the world without even having to leave Darmstadt. You will get assigned to an international student you will then help to get along in Darmstadt and at TU. And who would qualify better for that job than a student like you, who probably faced the same obstacles as they will? But most importantly, you can help integrate our fellow students from abroad into your and our social life. First and foremost, you will be a friend. As such, you can spend time with your Buddy, but also participate in fun events with the other BioBuddies.
As many international students don’t speak German, be prepared to communicate in English. Moreover, make sure that you will have enough time to meet with your buddy regularly. And most important: Have fun!
For your good engagement as a tutor, we will issue you a declaration of volunteer work (ehrenamtliche Arbeit), certificate of attendance to our workshop and 1 credit point for your biology studies at the TU Darmstadt.
If the program gained your interest and you want to help us make science without borders, or if you have additional questions, please contact us.
If you are a local biology student or an international exchange student at the TU Darmstadt and want to participate in our BioBuddies program for one (or more) semester(s), you are at the right place.
You will absolve a workshop with the topics “intercultural sensibilization”, “intercultural communication” and “culture perception”, this part is mandatory, but not boring. In the workshop we will all get to know each other in the big picture and do together some reflexive thinking about exchange of cultural goods.
Meet your BioBuddy at our campus’s bistro, go for some culinary adventures together, write your buddy and ask if everything is going well, if your buddy needs help with something, etc.
The organization team will offer you 1 event at least every 2 weeks and you should attend at least one of the events every month. Of course, in case of sickness or other circumstances you should communicate to our organization team.
We strongly expect you to have fun with us! This one is mandatory.
